The rise of adult animation has been something of a double edged sword, on one hand we’ve gotten awe-inspiring timeless works of art that push the medium forward like Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss. On the other hand we’ve gotten show’s like Modern Family Guy, Brickleberry, Paradise PD and Fugget about it. Cynical copy pasted slop that look’s like it was made in Go Animate.

This issue has only compounded in recent years as showrunners have begun to use their show’s to push their personal political beliefs. Both sides of the political spectrum have done this in the past, Democrat comedian Stephen Colbert was credited as one of the creators of “Our Cartoon President“ A political cartoon that Lampooned former United States president Donald Trump.

The Conservatives has also made attempts at using cartoons as a platform to spread their viewpoints, the two most recent examples of this being Mr Birchum and the focus of this Article, The New Norm.

The New Norm is the self proclaimed “South Park of [Twitter]“ (F*ck you Elon I’m not calling it X) The 4 minute pilot episode was released about a month ago, being critically panned by viewers for its shoddy animation, unlikable protagonist and it’s predictable played to death talking points.

This show has several glaring issues, for starters the main characters are unlikable. The show opens with Norm sitting in his living room and picking up a Beer only to freak out because the Beer can has a rainbow pattern on it. Obviously a reference to the Budd Light controversy where Budd Light did a cross promotion with Transgender Tik-tok influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

After a title card backed by a totally not AI generated theme song, Norm introduces himself as “The Old Norm“ He then attempts to leave to house so he can get some “Normal Beer“. Despite the fact that the Can having a rainbow on it makes no effect to the taste of the beverage in question. Also why did he even buy gay beer in the first place?

Norm is barred from leaving the house because he’s on house arrest, his daughter explains that he was put on house arrest because he threatened the school board for teaching children about Gender Identity. Already this show has committed a cardinal sin that’s tripped up several adult cartoons in the past, making a main character that’s impossible to like.

Then again this is a Conservative show, so perhaps being locked up for threatening the School board is something that the show’s target audience can relate to.

Anyway shortly after this we are introduced to Chaz, The generic Non-Binary SJW archetype, who’s here to…

Chaz is then cut off as Norm’s friend Charlie enters the room, The writers decided to pull the “I’m not racist I have a black friend“ card since Charlie is black and he’s Norms friend. But Charlie is also a Transphobe just like Norm so it dosen’t even matter, He’d rather hang out with his friend who’s on house arrest then help his child who’s questioning their gender.

Norm then throws Chaz the Gay beer can which they promptly reject because their not 21, Charlie then threatens them saying…

These are the guys the show want’s you to root for, just in case you needed a reminder.

It’s then revealed that Chaz is a spy working for the Woke American government. The only person in this scene I could find information on was the individual in the centre Rachel Levine, Admiral for the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and one of only a few openly Transgender government figures in the United States Government. I’m guessing in this universe she was elected president as she’s sitting in what looks to be the oval office.

Rachel was also Jewish and she grew up attending Hebrew school, this is clearly something the creators of the show are aware of as her character in the show is wearing a six pointed star on her uniform which resembles the Star of David. So I guess the show is trying to push a narrative that Jewish people are using the Woke agenda to control America or something.

The other two people in the scene I personally don’t recognise because I’m not American.

After this we get a reprise of the theme song, the theme song’s vocal’s are so blatantly performed by an AI voice. Followed by a guest appearance from Elon Musk, the show then claims that “[Twitter] is the home of free speech“.

Which is rich considering that this is the same site were just a week ago I got one of my tweet’s flagged as Hate speech because I called someone a Cissy for being blatantly transphobic.

Conclusion

In conclusion The New Norm is a complete dumpster fire, It’s fails to make Sympathetic characters, It’s failed to change the minds of it’s viewers, people on both sides of the political spectrum hate it. For a show that’s calling to “Legalise Humour“, it sure does give us a lot of valid reason’s as to why humour would be “outlawed”. Watching people make Yaoi of Norm was honestly more entertaining then watching this pilot.
